For me, riding a pete-pete is one way to get to know Makassar. While waiting to arrive, I could memorize the names of the streets, hear the passengers’ conversations, feel the traffic, and see the cityscape from the windows. It was an important pause for me to experience.

However, this blue-colored vehicle, which emerged in the mid-1980s, is increasingly rare to see in the city. Is this due to the presence of online transportation and the high desire of the people of Makassar to buy private vehicles?

Do we really prefer to rush and go on our own?
