About

Aziziah Diah Aprilya

Known as Zizi, is a visual artist and writer whose practice centers on photography, documentary storytelling, and urban and ecological research. Her work engages with themes of everyday life, urban space, communal memory, and the quiet traces of social and environmental change, often rooted in her hometown of Makassar, Indonesia.

Her ongoing project Mattude examines the impact of land reclamation on coastal women in Makassar who traditionally gather clams. Combining documentary photography and writing, Mattude was awarded the Objectifs Documentary Award 2024 (Emerging Category) and exhibited at Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film in Singapore.

Most recently, through the project Under the Tamarind Tree, she traces the symbolic and historical significance of tamarind trees in the cultural exchange between Makassar and Australia. Developed during her residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) as part of the BREEZE international artist exchange, the project reflects on trees as living archives and gateways to shared histories.

In Makassar, she is actively involved with art communities and literacy groups. Zizi is part of Diversify Photo and Women Photograph and is frequently involved in film production as a still and behind-the-scenes photographer.

She is available for news, documentary, and commercial assignments.
