About

Aziziah Diah Aprilya

Known as Zizi, is a visual artist, writer, and curator based in Makassar, Indonesia. Her practice centers on photography, documentary storytelling, and urban and ecological research. Through images, text, and collaborative projects, she explores everyday life, urban space, communal memory, and the subtle traces of social and environmental change, often rooted in her town, Makassar.

Her works span photography, video, writing, performance, and curatorial practice. Projects include Spasi, a reflection on Makassar’s disappearing pete-pete transport; Got Your Back, a photobook exploring space, care, and generational shifts (SOKONG! Publish, 2024); Pacukka, a documentary on traditional souring practices in South Sulawesi, supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture; and Mattude, a long-term research of coastal women and land reclamation in Makassar, which received the Objectifs Documentary Award 2024. Most recently, Under the Tamarind Tree was developed during her residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts as part of the BREEZE exchange program, tracing tamarind trees as living archives of Makassar–Australia connections.

Her work has been exhibited and published internationally, including at Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film (Singapore), Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (Australia), Soi Books (UK), and SOKONG! Publish (Indonesia). She contributes as a photographer for The Washington Post and Project Multatuli, and her writings and photographs have appeared in anthologies such as Badai Belum Usai (2023), PLAZA 001: Southeast Asian Photography (2023), and Riwayat Gunung & Silsilah Laut (2023).

In Makassar, she is actively involved with art communities and literacy groups. Zizi is part of Diversify Photo and Women Photograph and is frequently involved in film production as a still and behind-the-scenes photographer.

She is available for news, documentary, and commercial assignments.
